A journal entry from our Spring Break endeavor called Beach Reach in Panama City Beach, FL. We gave free van rides at night and free pancake breakfasts in the mornings.
We picked up Andre and three of his friends on Wednesday night. I was driving, Bryan was the Doorman. We were in bumper to bumper traffic, so one of them asked to get out and walk. Andre had been in PCB for Spring Break last year as well. He was ready with four verses of Scripture: three serious and one on the raunchy side from Ezekiel. He wanted to stump and agitate the people in the van (at least that’s what he said). Later he said no one had stumped him or had good answers for him.
Andre wanted to know what God thought about his lifestyle, if he was still saved, etc. Basically he was hungry for truth. So I took him to Hebrews 10:26-ff, “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we received a knowledge of the truth…” (Check it out). Andre seemed like I blew his mind, but he seemed happy about it. He really wanted to feel the conviction again over his life style.
After talking a while he admitted being active in church in high school, but the temptations of college were too many and strong. He is even currently a Bible study leader on the football team his plays on. I took him to Romans 7:14-ff and asked if that was him. He seemed to resonate with that too. I told him it leads to Romans 8. It says, “…If by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body you will live.”
Andre continued to yell back to his friend in the back seat who was sitting and talking with Alex. We had been stopped for about 10 minutes at their destination, but Andre said, “We aren’t getting out of the van until we finish the conversation.” Awesome!!! He said he wanted to finish the conversation over pancakes. Unfortunately, he came, but I didn’t see him there.
Lord, may you continue to convict Andre over his lifestyle and cause him to fully give his allegiance to you and working for the kingdom. Amen.
